The grotto is situated in a priviledged area which is not served by the grid. This has forced us to run the place by using renewable energy available on site. Sun and wood. That is all we need to run our Grotto. Thanks to our partner http://www.catech.ch who has made this possible
Electricity
680 W of PV panels are loading 6 Gel Batteries( total 1800 Ah) at a 24 VDC. It is afterwords converted into a 220 VAC . Low consumption bulbs and led lamps are used for the entire lighting system
Hot water
High efficiency solar collectors are installed on the roof and are pre-heating the water entering in a Gas boiler which modulate the final water temperature
Kitchen and heating
Every year approx. 40 tonf of wood are used for the kitchen and the heating system.
